Sleep Tight! Live Light!
Twenty Four Hours! Utilize them efficiently, or ruin them with wrong lifestyle habits. Some people believe that sleeping is a waste of time; it snatches away your productivity. I, somehow, believe that it is important to have a proper 7-8 hour sleep to be more productive and active at work.
One of the most important things a person can do for health is to take care of the health through proper sleep. Our body gets time to rest and recover to work for the coming day. Not only this, besides eating healthy food, and burning calories every day to stay fit and active, sound sleep has a significant role to play in a healthy heart.
If you are not sleeping willingly, doing overwork, or exerting your body, mind and soul, then let me remind you shall pay for it one day for your habits. Initially, you will feel overwhelmed for working more than your capacity; eventually, you will develop a habit of sleeping late or limiting your sleeping hours considerably. This will further lead to further sleep disorders. As per the research conducted by American Heart Association, poor-quality sleep or insufficient sleep is directly related to a surge in cardio-vascular levels of the human body.
Not enjoying a good night’s sleep means you are suffering from a sleep disorder. It is not necessary that every time person is responsible for such health concerns. There might be other reasons as well. Not only has the adults, aged 18 -50, and 50-70, a downward trend been observed among the children also. One of the possible reasons is the facility of gadgets and increased mobile phone usage over physical play. It was observed that the presence of television in their room motivated them to watch more television and sleep less. This further results in loss of concentration and disturbed study patterns. Moreover, a change in children’s behaviour and approach toward life has also been observed. Let us first figure out possible reasons for interrupted or disturbed sleep patterns.
• Age Matters| Age is one of the possible reasons that you are unable to sleep properly during the night. As you age, you tend to wake up in the middle of the night for washroom rounds, and this interrupts your sleep thereafter.
• Environmental Issues| Environmental issues mean, that, if your partner snores or is watching television, it might hamper your sleep. Besides, extreme weather conditions can also lead you to wake up at midnight at short intervals.
• Medical Issues| Issues like sleep apnea lead to problems in sleeping. A person faces a lot of difficulty due to this medical condition.
• Medications| Some drugs can also lead to disturbed sleep patterns. So, ask about the after or side effects of medicines prescribed by your health care practitioner.
• Work Hours| Night shifts or longer working hours may disturb the biological sleep pattern all alone. Figure out if you can make it for the day shift and choose your working hours as per your body’s capabilities.
• If age is the case of your undisturbed sleep patterns, try to make a schedule that excludes evening naps and includes meditations and comfortable workouts or activities for you to be tired and sleep properly during the night. You can also limit your dinner portions and set timings so that you don’t end up waking due to indigestion.
• If environmental factors are the reason for your disturbed sleep, make your surroundings comfortable as per the weather. Bid your mobile phone, laptop or any other gadget a good night’s farewell and meditate for 10 minutes before sleeping. You can listen to guided sleep meditations as well.
• If your long work hours or night shifts are a concern, you can take a refreshing bath, unwind yourself and relax with a book. Sometimes, too hectic schedules can lead to problems in sleeping.
• If medication is a concern, you can ask your doctor to work on the salts that are you taking.
• There are proper treatments and solutions to medical conditions like sleep apnea. Doctors prescribe a healthy lifestyle, meditations and methods to deal with your problems.
So, I would suggest taking initial steps like a healthy lifestyle and good eating habits. You must give equal importance to your work and sleep as both are pivotal for an efficient and productive life. Too much sleep is equally not recommended. We suggest a balance, a harmony in every aspect of human life as It’s a small life, live it to its fullest!
